Late Qing Period Inkstone in Original Hardwood Box | ca. 1870–1912
This authentic late Qing dynasty inkstone is a rare scholar’s object, preserved in its original hardwood fitted box. Finely carved with floral decoration at the water reservoir, this piece carries the unique patina of genuine use – the kind of character only centuries can create.
The inkstone measures 8 x 11 cm and remains in excellent structural condition, with no cracks or restorations. The hardwood box, 9.5 x 12.5 x 3 cm, has a smooth, aged surface and still protects the stone perfectly. A noticeable rim chip on the lid, as shown in the photographs, is part of its long history and does not affect its presentation or function.
Such complete sets with original boxes have become increasingly hard to find on the market, making this a desirable addition to any serious collection of Chinese scholar’s objects.
