Qianlong period, circa 1775 | 45 x 30 cm
This exceptional pair of large Chinese export porcelain dishes features a vivid and richly detailed rendition of the iconic tobacco leaf motif reinterpreted here in a rare pseudo version, showcasing a dynamic fusion of color, pattern, and movement. Dating from the Qianlong period (circa 1775), each dish measures an impressive 45 x 30 cm, underscoring their original purpose as both decorative and functional centrepieces.
The handpainted palette is alive with vibrant enamels in cobalt blue, iron red, soft pinks, lemon yellow, and aubergine, depicting an exuberant arrangement of flowering foliage and stylized leaves — a design strongly influenced by Indian textile patterns and adapted for the Western market. The fine scalloped rims are delicately outlined in iron red.
Pieces of this scale and condition are rarely encountered as a matching pair, making them a standout addition for collectors of Chinese export porcelain or grand decorative interiors.
Condition: Excellent, with only minor expected wear to the enamels. No restorations.
Provenance: Private European collection.
